The Kuki Students’ Organisation was formally establised in the year 1995 under the initiative and visionary leadership of Pu. Paothang Haokip, Pu. James Thangkhogin Haokip, Pu. Thangboi Hangshing, Pu. Lamboi Haokip, Pu Stephen Touthang and Pu Albert Jamlal Misao. The first meeting towards the establishment of the organization was held on 6th August, 1995 where it was agreed to call for a ‘Get Together Program’ of all the Kukis in Pune. This program was held on 26th August, 1995 at Alliance Church with about 50 members attending the program. This meeting marked the beginning of the KSO and KWS Pune. Worship services were initially conducted every alternate Sundays with about 30 members attending each services. A worship leader/chairman was appointed to look after the worship services until it was decided to have a full-fledged executive body of the KWS Pune in 2003. The Kuki Worship Service Pune as an Inter-denominational fellowship with its commitment and vision to serve and build up lives in the fear of the Lord has grown from strength to strength.
God answered the silent prayers of His people as the need to have a full-time Pastor to look after Som-Inn and the fellowship was realized in 2006. God brought a young and dynamic person Mr. Hemkhomang Haokip to be the first pastor of the KWS Pune and the fellowship was tremendously blessed under his leadership and guidance.
Som-Inn Ministry: The KWS Pune celebrated a decade of God’s faithfulness on 6th February, 2005. The decade celebration marked yet another chapter for the KWS Pune as God opened a way for the fellowship to start a boys’ hostel called SOM-INN- A Discipleship Centre. As of now this is the most important ministry for the fellowship with its main objective of imparting Christian teachings and values to the students even as they pursue different academic disciplines. The fellowship is also in the process of starting one hostel for girls in the same line with the Som-Inn boys’ hostel.
Prayer Cell Groups: Apart from the regular Sunday worships we also conduct prayer cell group meetings at five different localities every week. The cell group members meet for Bible study, prayer, discussion on contemporary issues and sharing the word of God and testimonies.
Sports Ministry: One interesting activity of the KWS Pune is the sports ministry where sports is used as a means to reach out to young people within and outside the fellowship.
Needs: The fellowship is praying for a church building of its own where we can enjoy a hassle free atmosphere during worship services. No committee, plan or project has been instituted for the same as yet but, we hope our prayers will be answered in His own time. We are also in need of an assistant pastor so that the ministry of pastoral care and spiritual nurture can be more effective.
The fellowship meets every Sunday at St. Anne’s Church. We are privileged to have worshippers not only from the Kuki community but also friends from other communities both within India and abroad. Our openness has enriched the KWS Pune to a great extent and has given us the opportunity to witness to other people and also to people of other faiths. Therefore to meet the need of the various communities of worshippers, the worship services are conducted in English but with some level of flexibility.
